Genre: Horror/young adult/fiction
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

To work on her attitude, Melanie decides to start writing in a journal. She doesn't want just any journal though; she wants something special that calls out to her. So, she saves her money and goes on the hunt for the right one. When she comes across a small bookstore in her neighborhood, she decides to go in and take a look. Finding an old odd-looking journal she absolutely fell in love with, she goes home to realize she doesn't want to write just anything in this book and finds herself not being able to write in it. Until she shows her best friend who tells her to use it as a book of shadows. Soon Melanie and her friends come to find that the journal is far more than meets the eye and is too powerful to keep around. When the book falls into the wrong hands, things begin to take a toll for the worst as things around town start getting a bit too out of hand. Is there any way to put an end to the books power? Will Melanie and her friends be able to help the town from being brain washed? Or will they all be doomed to be forced to follow something they don't believe in? I love this book series! After reading the first book I had to get my hands on the other two! I really hope more books come out, but I kind of doubt it. It's been a few years since this book came out, so I don't see it happening. 😩

Pros: Great story plot!
Cons: Strong religious beliefs.
Recommended to: Those who love a good horror written in a journal/blog form.

Laetitia's dream is to become a singer, starting off with posting on her blog about her different hair styles with colorful wigs or singing tips in hopes of achieving that. But when weird pictures staring appearing on her blog page that she did not upload, things start to get weird. She starts having starling dreams that feel real, and an image that related to the dream would be posted up on her blog when she woke. As things keep getting weirder and out of hand, Laetitia's family tries hard not to lose her to child services due to them think her family incapable of taking care of her. What could be the reason to all the weird things happening to Laetitia? Are her dreams trying to tell her something? And is it good or bad This book series is my absolute favorite! Can't pick one out of the three books I like the most. It doesn't drag, gets straight to the point. I didn't expect the ending though! I can say that some of the adults in this book were frustrating. I personally find it a bit hard to read about adults who don't really listen to kids who are telling the truth. I felt the mom was the only one who tried her hardest. But I think it fits the story, and I think it's a great read.

Pros: Great horror read!
Cons: Frustrating adult characters
Recommended to: Those who like horror in a diary/journal/blog form.

Book review for We Are okay read in April 2023

Title: We are okay
Author: Nina LaCour
Number of pages: 236
Genre: young adult/fiction/realistic fiction
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

After her grandfather passed a year ago Marin ran off millions of miles away from all she knew and loved to New York for collage without a word to her friends. Her grandfather being the only family member she had she didn't know what else to do. Living off ramen noodles and cereal in her dorm room she feels like she's doing fine, until winter break came around and she was the only one in the whole school building, and her best friend Mable decided to come by for three days after not really speaking to one another since Marin left. Not knowing how to act or even say anymore around her best friend, Marin prepares for Mables's arrival the best she can all while thinking will she be able to explain herself as to why she just up and left, why she hasn't answered her texts? Will their relationship remain the same or has the year separated them too long? This book was very simple, I felt it was not only well written but very relatable. It may be a bit draggy for some, maybe a bit boring. But I did actually liked it.

Pros: Relatable
Cons: Can be a bit boring to some.
Recommended to: Anyone who likes a calm read.

Prom House book review read May 2023

Title: Prom House
Author: Chelsea Mueller
Number of pages: 256
Genre: Murder mystery/mystery/young adult/fiction
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kylie was only looking forward to a few nights of party fun after prom with her friends and the Cabin they rented was something they never expected to ever stay overnight was enormous with enough room for the ten of them complete with a pool a bar...and murder. When her and her friend notice that Kylies boyfriend is nowhere to be found. Thinking he is probably alone drinking they set off to look for him but what they find isn't what they expect. I could not put this book down! It had me at every page every word had me saying oh snap what's going to happen now! It really was that good! I had a feeling who the killer was, to me it was just a bit obvious. 😅 Oh though I have to admit I expected more gore more action more of a mystery maybe more murders, there was a lot of drama but lacked scary moments. The ending felt rushed just a bit the way we find out and how it came to a conclusion.

Pros: Good story plot.
Cons: Rushed ending.
Recommended to: Those who like a good murder mystery.

Gravebooks book review read March 2023

Title: Gravebooks

Author: J.A White

Number of pages: 272

Genre: Fantasy/horror/young adult/children

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Alex thought he was free from that apartment so many months ago, but when he wakes up to find himself in an endless graveyard and comes across Natasha there alive once more, he realizes the nightmare if far from over. Every night when he falls asleep, Natasha makes him write a story that's scary enough to produce a different exotic flower each time, not knowing what for, but Alex was soon to find out. It's not just any stories he has to write, it's stories he has yet to finish due to the writer's block he still has. Asking for help from Yasmin but getting denied being told she needed to move on to forget and ended their friendship, he tries to do things alone this time around. Will Alex be able to escape? Does he really have to face is alone this time around? Just as great as the first book! It was sooo good! Very cleverly written, wasn't boring or dragged got right into it! I enjoyed the whole idea and concept. I actually loved that Natasha was brought back into it, as she was kind of my favorite character. I hope Netflix comes out with a movie soon!

Pros: Very cleverly written, works well with the first book.

Cons: As with the first book I couldn't find any cons.

Recommended to: Those who have read the first book and anyone who loves a good fantasy story.

Nightbooks book review read March 2023

Title: Nightbooks
Author: J.A White
Number of pages: 320
Genre: Fantasy/horror/young adult/children's
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Alex was a bit different than other kids, they didn't want to hang out with the boy into horror gore and writing creepy stories. He loved scary stuff so much that his parents turned their house into a haunted house. But when no one shows up, Alex becomes upset, and decides to sneak out one night to throw away all his scary stories. On his way to the incinerator, Alex is stopped by the sound of a tv playing his favorite horror movie, he soon finds himself trapped by a witch in her enchanted apartment. Finding out that he is a writer, the witch lets Alex live if he reads her one of his scary stories every night. But when his stories are ripped to shreds, being left with only one more story, he realizes the stories aren't coming to him as naturally as they used when he has to write more. Joined by a young girl named Yazmin that was also trapped there by the witch, they try to form a plan to escape their captor and go back home.
I can't begin to tell you how much I love this book! I also really loved the movie just had to put that out there. 😅 I didn't know it was a book first, so I just had to get it. While there are loads of differences, the movie is still pretty great.

Pros: So well written!
Cons: couldn't really find many cons in this one!
Recommended to: Thos who love a good fantasy with a witch involved.

One of my favorite books I have read in February. I loved the whole scavenger hunt plot especially it being on Valentines Day. I loved the locations and the two main characters. Yes, it's a bit cheesy but it's a cheesy I can kind of dig. 😅
